Youth Sets House on Fire, Then Wrecks Family Car
November 23rd, 2012 by Joe BurgessLate Thanksgiving afternoon, an upset 14 year old youth, staying with a local family, attempted to set their house on fire. When a family member attempted to restrain him, as the fire dept. and sheriff’s deputies were arriving, the youth took their car (which was soon wrecked on a nearby highway).
Around 4 pm, Monticello Dispatch received a call reporting that a Carpenter Road home had been set on fire by a youth. As the fire dept. was responding to the call, one of the firefighters reported that a car had just “wrecked out” near the fire training station and “boot camp” on HWY 278 East, and instructed one of the responding firemen to check on the driver, til police arrived..
Authorities soon recognized the vehicle’s description as the one that was taken from the house fire.
The youth was taken to Drew Memorial Hospital for treatment, before being interviewed by authorities.
