No no no. I vote no!!!

  2. Greg sanson says:

Should be called yes for the college campaign. I hear some people that support this saying how much revenue this is going to bring to Monticello. Yes right it will. They said the same thing about the industrial park. We how’s that working out for us. Look at all the promises made to the citizens from the elected . look at the history of every thing promised and that which came true and you will see the citizen is always on the bottom. Time to stand up people and be counted. VOTE and be counted. We don’t need anoughter worthless building played for by the people so the few can have fun.

    Dear citizens of Drew county,
Most of you are correct; most of the people pushing for this event center and the hospital addition are the prominent more successful people of the community. I think that’s a great thing! Obviously they understand business and the art of making money. If they are still in business or have money then obviously they have a history of making good choices.
Some people pushing for the event center and hospital are old money but some of them are self-made. Who have gone from nothing and are now very successful! Even if they are from old money, it still takes a level head with good smarts and good decision making skills to keep a business afloat!
Of the 10% sales tax people pay in Monticello 6.5% goes to the state, 2.5% goes to the county and 01% goes to the city… that’s 3.5% of every dollar stays local the rest goes to the state.
Business owners are for these things because they will bring people to the community, and people coming to our community spend money…. Now obviously those business owners will see more profits and that may be what is driving them but what the citizens of Monticello should be seeing is the increase in tax revenue for your city!!!!
More people from other towns spending money in our town means 3.5% of every dollar they spend goes to help Monticello and Drew county! That person from warren that just spent $100 at Walmart just gave $3.50 to our city and county to help improve roads and fund other projects.
You have to invest something to make money… If you invest your time at work then you get a paycheck. If you invest you’re your money in good sound investments then you should get a return or your investment…
So, if we as citizens and shoppers of Monticello and Drew County invest an extra PENNY for every dollar we spend locally then our return on investment will be an event center and a bigger better hospital… That is a pretty good return on investment if you ask me!!! Let me put it into dollars and cents… If you spend $20,000 locally per year then $200 of your money would go towards these two things… are you telling me that if I give $200 then I can get the ability to use an event center and have a hospital that can better care for me if I so need??? What a deal????!!!!

Now you may be in perfect health and despise large crowds so neither of these things appeal to you what so ever! Ok, that’s fine. So you won’t directly benefit from these two things and get to use them. But you will see benefits from them! If these places are run properly, the city should see an increase in tax revenue which should be used to improve city streets, update infrastructure, pay salaries to more employees, and keep emergency vehicles in tip top shape…
Think about that… by attracting more people to Monticello to spend money we are getting them to give our city money!!! So what if a few business owners line their pockets with some more folding money, we can’t cut off our nose to spite our face…

    I repeat!

We cannot cut off our nose to spite our face!

All I read in most of these comments un thought out and spiteful reasons why not to improve and grow our community…

  4. Concerned Tax Payer says:

If the event center is needed, it should be built, owned and operated 100% by either UAM or the City of Monticello. I have seen too many red flags in what I have heard thus far with the combination of the event center committee. If UAM handles their finances appropriately, different from recent years, it might could be benefiting already from a facility such as this.

Why didn’t we at least wait until the new UAM Chancellor got on board? Sloooooooow things down folks. UAM and the City of Monticello have been making it just fine without an event center. What’s the big hurry now? People need to wake and smell what’s goin on. Go and vote NO! Don’t let this thing pass without stepping up to the plate folks.
