Wilmar Applying for Business Incubator Grant to Occupy School Building
March 31st, 2015 by Joe Burgess
A public meeting was held at the Courthouse, Monday night, where a group of approximately 20 local residents were asked what Drew County needed for the future. The overwhelming answer was jobs.
An economic development grant porgram was then discussed, which is designed to help lower-middle income areas, which seemed like a good direction for the City of Wilmar to consider for their former school building.
The grant request will be for an amount between $50,000-200,000, and would be designed to help small businesses “get of the ground” by providing them with an office, business address, and small assembly or manufacturing area, as well as guidance in needed business practices.
Following that meeting, the Wilmar City Council held a short meeting, where they approved a resolution to apply for the grant program. The called meeing was needed, since the deadline for the grant filing is today.
