All I can say is WOW! I am glad no one was hurt! Thanks to EVERYONE that had something to do with containing this fire. And…thank the Lord for rain this morning.
Rain??? A little sprinkle maybe. We need 4-8 inches of “rain” to do any good, we should be under a burn ban in Drew Co.
We got 3″+ in our area the other day, and you can set a match in the yard and burn the world off now.
It’s very dry.
Glad nothing was lose and it is contained. Lets just hope it stays that way.
I realize it was not a lot of rain, but it helped supress that fire. Everyone knows that it is dry and we need rain but be thankful for what we received. And the crews have worked very hard to insure that it is contained and will continue to monitor the situation.
My husband and I rode around some of the devestation area yesterday, Its was both sad and scary to see just how close our community came to being engulfed. Being a V.F.F. I now appreciate firefighters and Volunteers even more for the the job they did and do.
if we were under a no fire burn this might not have happened wake up monticello burning in city should be banned at all times not just when it is dry
I think concerned’s comment about the rain was more directed at the County Judge for not being aware enough to realize that 1/16th of an inch is not enough rain to prevent this from happening again.
You get one person not realizing the dangers burning trash and it can easily start a fire. People don’t realize how far an ember can stay hot and float when it is 95 degrees.
That’s not the city and only the county judge can issue a burn ban for the entire county….fire chief can issue one for the city limits but that is it and those who set fires on,purpose don’t give a Crap about a burn ban.
