Why Duplicate Covid-19 Tests in Southeast AR???
May 6th, 2020 by Joe BurgessMLive has spoken with many knowledgeable sources in our area. Generally speaking, duplicated drive-through testing sites don’t happen without a specific reason of high infection, either present or possible.
Off-camera sources indicate that an estimated 8% of Warren‘s recent drive-through testing site were positive for COVID-19.
There was also a recent test in McGehee, in Desha County. Although we don’t have the statistics from that event, apparently they were high enough for Dumas, also in Desha County to have a testing site, next Tuesday.
And 8% infection rate does not qualify as a “hotspot“ as described in the governor’s daily press update, but it is enough to be cautious of increasing numbers in an area.
One of the likely reasons for the repeated testing sites is the heart infection rate in Cummins prison unit, which is located in Lincoln County.
With the large number of employees at the Cummins unit, from all areas of Southeast Arkansas, there is an increased risk of a Covid spread. It seems that, although infection rates in Southeast Arkansas may not be a “hotspot”, the ADH is working to ensure that it does not become one.

Joe,
Isn’t it strange the Governor opens up our State parks last Friday said noone from out of State could come in. Then yesterday he opens the whole State back up to all the Surrounding States . How is this going to affect our state as far as the covid 19 it will be spike back up in no time.
A concern Citizen.
