The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team played their home opener of 2022 football campaign on Saturday evening.
The Boll Weevils hosted Great American Conference foe Oklahoma Baptist University in a soaking wet game day match-up. The 40-17 victory over the Bison pushes the Weevils to a 2-0 record on the season.

OBU came out of the gate strong in Saturday evening‘s Great American Conference match-up, being the first to score and gaining an early lead over UAM. That was until the Boll Weevil Football Team turned on the jets for the rest of the match

On offense, quarterback Demilon Brown went 8-of-22 on passing plays for 103 yards and claimed two touchdowns passes. He threw a touchdown pass to both Lacedric Smith and Jordan Mansfield. Although he did not score himself, Isaiah Cross led UAM in receiving with two receptions for 38 total yards. His longest of the night being for a 28 yard gain. On the ground, Jonero Scott’s 17 carries for 129 yards led the team, but, Demilon Brown was a close second with 112 yards of his own on  11 attempts.

Defensively, Kaytron Allen led the way with eight total tackles with seven solo stops.

Marquise Mcknight led the night in extra point attempts, going 2-2.

Boll Weevil Head Coach Hud Jackson had this to say after the game: “We are excited about outcome. Our players and coaches work extremely hard and I am so proud of them. So grateful for our fans and for how hard our athletic staff worked for our home opener! Lots of players got some productive reps! On to the next one. We are 0 & 0! Eat’em up!”

• 07:14 – UAM | Jonero Scott ruses one yard into the Bison end zone for the first Boll Weevil touchdown of the game after a 10-play, 80-yard series.
• 04:51 – UAM | Scott rushes 45 yards for his second touchdown of the game, following a three play, 52-yard drive.
• 02:38 – UAM | Brown throws a 20 yard dart to LaCedric Smith to score for the Weevils after a series that lasted two plays and 30 yards.

Second Quarter

• 14:45 – UAM | Kaytron Allen interceps an OBU pass and runs it back 90 yards for a Boll Weevil touchdown
• 10:02 – UAM | Brown connects with Jordan Mansfield for a 17-yeard pass into the end zone for an eight play, 70-yard drive touchdown.
• 02:19 – UAM | DeQuan Street intercepts a pass from Oklahoma Baptist to score a 26-yard touchdown for the Weevils
• 00:00 – OBU | A field goal is kick as time runs out on the game clock.

Fourth Quarter

• 10:27 – OBU | Jaxon Canard scores the final points of the game on and eight yeard run to score for the Bisons after a nine play, 49-yard drive.

Up Next 
The Weevils return to action on September 17 when they travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to take on Henderson State University. The game will be hosted on Sept. 17 and begin at 6:00 p.m.
