Weather Siren Update: County Hiring PartM-Time OEM Repair Man, Changing from Everbridge to Hyper-Reach for Digital Notifications- Video
May 11th, 2021 by Joe Burgess
The Drew County Quptime Court took 30 minutes of their Monday night meeting, discussing and getting updates on the weather warning/siren situation from OEM director Jesse Griffin.
The highlights of the discussion are Griffin‘s concerns about residents getting a “false sense of security,“ by having the weather sirens. This is specifically based on the systems age and lack of dependability, which he showed examples of.
At least three maintenance/support options were discussed, with the consensus being to employ a part time maintenance person to keep the sirens in their best operational condition. He will also help with other maintenance items with county equipment, in different departments.
The final consensus decision was swapping the counties electronica notification to residence from Everbridge to Hyper Reach, which provides more local options for notifications (including emergency situations) and an additional $2,800 yearly savings to the county.
