Water & Trash Rates Discussed for Home-Businesses & Multi-Unit Offices
July 29th, 2015 by Joe BurgessA well-needed, somewhat-heated discussion developed, Tuesday night, from a boring topic, dealing with water meter deposits for multi-unit complexes.
The long-time question of home/businesses getting commercial bills was brought up by councilman Joe Meeds, and will get studied and clarified in the near future.
Also multi-unit stores/offices will be clarified by a committee of council memerss
Let’s hope that all council member get involved in that issue.
MLive will annoumce the date of that meeting, when it becomes available.

I don’t think it is fair that a business, that uses little water each month and has no additional trash pick up should be required to pay a higher trash pick up than a home owner. My trash is picked up maybe once per month, from the same size trash can that would be used at a residential address.
as to “business owner”: I heartily agree. It has long been a practice here to gouge the business owner. Take the local barbershop or insurance office. Do they really use more and therefore pay more? Or is it more like “they are a business”, therefore charge them more. For a new business trying to start up every dime counts. All overhead, insurance, deposits, phones, start-up stock and much more are to be considered. Then they are charged a “premium” price for services and sometimes charged and get no services.
This is an emphasis on the requirements of the state rather than on individual liberties.
