W J McKiever passed away, yesterday.
W.J. was known by almost everyone in town, due to his role as a local pharmacist for decades and his involvement with the City Council and Quorum Court.
“He enjoyed cutting horses and politics.”
He originally started City Drug. Several years after selling that business, he opened McKiever’s Pharmacy.
W.J. had been chairman of the Drew Central All School Reunion for years, and presented many scholarships to students at the yearly event.
He “Really cared about his family, friends, customers, and everyone in Drew County.” Said one friend.
“Do what’s best for your neighbor,” was a phrase that was spoken about W.J. after his passing, yesterday. Those words were followed by a description of how he would hold small fundraisers to help people with specific needs, like a fish fry to raise money for a cancer patient to travel for medical care.
W. J. McKiever wwill be remembered because of his public activities, but he will be remembered better, because of all of the personal relationships he had with thousands of local families.
Our prayers and sympathy are extended to his family and friends.
