Vera Lloyd Makes Brighter Futures with Simmons First Foundation Grant
February 2nd, 2021 by SubmittedVera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services gratefully accepted a grant from the Simmons First Foundation last week for the agency’s Transition Services Program.
Donna Mahurin, Vera Lloyd’s CEO, and Machell Dailey, Education Services Director, accepted the grant. Both the Vera Lloyd and Simmons’ teams are thrilled with the brighter futures sure to be made possible with these funds.
This year, an estimated 23,000 youth (or more) will “age out” of the foster care system nationally. At the ages of 18 to 21, they will be expected to exit the system, find a job, create a safe home and fend for themselves. Vera Lloyd’s Transition Services Program works to prepare, equip and empower Arkansas youth with vision and tools to successfully manage this transition.
Ms. Dailey will lead an array of programming including workshops such as Financial Literacy and Communication Skills, college and vocational school tours, life skills classes, and employment education through the Campus Work Study Program.
