Update on Captured Escapee
September 27th, 2024 by Joe Burgess
During further investigation into the Escape of Detainee Evans on September 26, 2024 it was discovered that after being taken off of the recreational yard he was allowed to use the phone before being placed back into his individual cell.
During this time he attempted stabbing the Transport Officer multiple times with a pen and proceeded to make his way to the interior kitchen door which was propped open while State Inmates were working in the kitchen area. The exterior kitchen door was not propped open but instead the locking mechanism in the exterior door malfunctioned and didn’t latch as a State Inmate had walked out to do outside work.
As I stated yesterday we doing all we can to ensure that this doesn’t happen again and I want to be as transparent as possible. As your Sheriff I feel as though it is vital to do so. I am thankful that no one was injured and that by working together this inmate was taken back into custody within 5 minutes. With the new information Detainee Evans will face further additional charges besides the Escape.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Tim Nichols
