Unusual Wrong Way Wreck, Possibly Valid Reason
August 1st, 2017 by iPhoneAround 7:40, Monday evening, an accident occurred at the intersection of Main and Gaines Streets, that most local folks would not have been involved in.
A wrecker from North Arkansas was towing a camper, and turned left west at Cockrell’s Shoes.
Monticello residents know that that is a one-way street, turning right. The wreck brought attention to the fact that there were no “no left turn” or “one way” signs at that intersection, it has probably been that way since 2014.
No one was injured. Monticello Police collected information to complete the accident report.
The involved wrecker was able to remove the camper and continue on their trip. Rangel Towing removed the eastbound Toyota Camry.
Signs need to be put up on all one way streets. I have seen many people driving the wrong way on the one way streets and the square. They need red flashing wrong way signs before someone gets seriously injured.
I can understand how that happened. I’m sure it is very confusing to ‘out of towners’.
The roads are not marked well for people who come through from out-of-town. And it happens way too often. I’m not so sure the city couldn’t be held responsible. This needs to be acted on immediately. This is not the only intersection that is not properly marked. There are at least two others I can think of.
