UAM Women Win UT-Martin Rodeo
April 20th, 2018 by UAM SportsWhitney DeSalvo scored a combined 135 points in two events to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s rodeo team to a first place finish at the University of Tennessee-Martin Rodeo last week.
DeSalvo, a sophomore education major from Springfield, grabbed 115 points for a third place finish in breakaway roping and added another 20 points in the team roping competition. Ashley Newcomb, a senior agriculture major from Royal, scored 100 points after finishing in a third place tie in goat tying, Jessica Rowland, a senior agriculture major from Bonnerdale, added 10 points to the UAM team total in breakaway roping while Abby Searcy, a senior nursing major from Monticello, scored 60 points in barrel racing.
UAM’s team total of 305 points was five points better than runner-up Southern Arkansas. Host UT-Martin finished third, followed by Missouri Valley College, Murray State, Three Rivers and East Mississippi Community College.
