What will you be doing at the event? Answering questions and swabbing your cheeks.
What happens when you donate bone marrow? Bone marrow is donated for patients with blood cancer. They will call you if you are a match to ask if you want to donate at that time of the call. If you do, you will be reimbursed for any missed work, gas, hotel, etc.
Is donating bone marrow a surgery? No, it is not a surgery, such as giving someone a transplant. They will give you anesthesia, stick a needle in your hip bone, and withdraw to get bone marrow cells.
What are the requirements to register? You have to be between 18 years of age to 55 years of age to register, but will stay on the registry until you are 61 years of age.
You also have to be at least 105 pounds and your BMI cannot be greater than 40.
