UAM Sports Announce 2022 Hall of Fame Class

Interfor 444 Good newsUAMHOF2022Four former student-athletes and one incredible supporter of UAM Athletics have been chosen for induction into the UAM Sports Hall of Fame, Director of Athletics Hud Jackson announced.

The new inductees will be honored in the 2022 UAM Hall of Fame Ceremony on Thursday, October 6th. The inductees will also be recognized during pregame ceremonies at Will Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium on October 8th prior to the 2:00 p.m. kickoff when Arkansas-Monticello hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State in a key Great American Conference game. Both events will be live streamed on the official UAM Sports YouTube Page.

The 2022 induction class was chosen by a committee, and it includes former 2x All-American softball player Sarah Hayslip SantoDerylton Hill, an All-Regional and All-GAC basketball player; Rick Owens, an All-American and Academic All-American baseball player; Becca Tipton Greenwood, a 2x All-American softball player; and Jeremy Woodall, a former UAM football player and this year’s Spirit Award winner.

“We are so excited for all of these wonderful people,” said UAM Athletic Director Hud Jackson“To be selected to be a member of the hall of fame is special. It will be a great night of celebration. Jeremy Woodall being selected for the spirit award is a perfect example of a person giving themselves to help others! He is all about UAM and our athletic department!”

Nominees are required to have earned a college degree in order to be elected for induction into the UAM Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 6th, in the Green Room of the UAM University Center.

The first of the selectees is Sarah Hayslip Santo, who played softball at UAM from 2009-2011. Over her softball career at UAM, she received numerous national, regional, and conference recognitions. Since her graduation in 2011, Santo’s name has continued to be in the Blossoms record books multiple times for both individual season and career records. She is top 10 in numerous individual season records, including 9 triples (1st), 21 doubles (T2nd), 17 home runs (3rd), 56 runs scored (4th), 86 hits in 2010 (3rd) and 81 in 2011 (8th), 222 at-bats (3rd), 65 RBIs in 2010 (T4th) and 54 in 2011 (8th), SLG of .748 in 2010 (5th) and .698 in 2011 (9th). The career record book for UAM is littered with Bowen’s name as she sits in a handful of different career categories – including Triples (13), batting average (.422), on-base percentage (.477), and RBIs (119).

Derylton Hill was a men’s basketball player at UAM from 2016-2018. Over his 2 year career with the Boll Weevils, he lead the Weevils to two straight GAC Tournament finals; winning the title in 2017. He appeared in, and started all 30 games in the 2017 season with an average of 16.8 ppg, and all 31 games in the 2018 season with an average of 18.3 ppg for the Weevils. He racked up 1,071 points in his career, becoming the 21st leading scorer in UAM history.

Rick Owens was a baseball player at UAM from 1975-1979 and is a 4-year letter. Over his baseball career at UAM, he was selected to multiple recognitions in the 1978 season. He also set the single season batting average record in that season with a .441. In his time at UAM he worked with UAM Athletics in the SID department, as well as being the voice of the UAM football team in the 1978 season.

  • 1978 NAIA Academic All-American
  • 1978 All NAIA – 1st Team
  • 1978 All-AIC – 1st Team

Becca Tipton Greenwood played softball at UAM from 2006-2010 and received her masters as well from 2013-2015. Over her softball career at UAM, she received numerous national, regional, and conference recognitions. Since her graduation in 2010, Greenwood’s name stands out above most in the UAM and GSC record books. She holds top 10 placings in many individual season records, including at-bats (216), runs scored (52), home runs (15), total bases (175), SLG (.810 & .801), and OBP (.511). Greenwood also holds the school record in average (.472), hits (102), doubles (70), and RBIs (71-T1st).

Jeremy Woodall is the recipient of the 2022 UAM Spirit Award. Woodall is a regular at all UAM athletic events. He is a UAM graduate and former Boll Weevil football player.

Woodall serves as Director at the Baptist College Ministry on the UAM campus. He loves to attend all of the different sporting events UAM has to offer and enjoy supporting each and every student athlete that comes through the university. Woodall has a real passion to know the UAM athletes, coaches, and staff. The love and support he has for this university, and the athletes that come through, on and off the field, is near unmatched. He is a true Weevil/Blossom fan.
