UAM Seniors Present Art Exhibits
April 11th, 2019 by UAM NewsCurrent exhibits at the Glassblock Gallery in the UAM Taylor Library showcase the artwork of senior art majors from Southeast Arkansas. Kaitlyn Carrico of Hamburg and KeyAira M. Charles of Warren each have their senior thesis exhibitions on display until April 14. A public artist reception will be held Thursday, April 11 from 1:30– 3:30 PM.
Carrico’s senior thesis exhibition “Flourish” features altered self-portrait photographs and floral acrylic paintings which she says express beauty and confidence. “I want to make a statement and encourage others to step out of their comfort zone, to show the world that one’s beauty doesn’t have to be from the things that are considered ‘perfect,’ but by the qualities and things that could be considered imperfections,” said Carrico.
Charles’s senior thesis exhibition “The Wandering Mind” includes Zentangle patterns and acrylic pouring, incorporating movements of lines, shapes, and colors to express her spontaneous process. “When I use the same technique with a different pattern or color, I become amazed by how unique the pieces are. I enjoy the difference behind all of them, because I get a chance to create freely with my own imagination.”
The reception Thursday is open to the public. Gallery hours are: Monday-Wednesday 10 AM – 4:30 PM, Thursday 9AM – 4 PM, and Friday 12 -2:30 PM. For more information, contact Tom Richard, professor of art at (870) 460-1338.
