UAM Football Mid-Year Signing Day
December 28th, 2018 by
AJ Huffman
December 19th , was early national signing day for college football. All across the country, college football transfers signed their National Letter of Intent to new universities. The Weevil Football team went out and signed 4 JUCO transfers: Hayden Davis, Lane Outlaw, David Hogue, and Jack Hendershot. Head Coach, Hud Jackson, and the UAM Football Coaching Staff hit the recruiting trail hard in search of players to add to the continued success of this growing program. As you know, the Weevils had a fantastic season this year going 6-5 in the regular season. Three players received All-Conference Honors, one Academic All- American honor, one player named All-Super Region 3, and Weevils Football’s had their first postseason appearance in 25 years. Here is what Head Football Coach Hud Jackson had to say about yesterday’s signing class:
“The players we signed yesterday will have a huge impact on our continued growth of our program. We needed some specific areas filled and we did that. Obviously the QB position was a very important signing. We felt that we needed to create a strong competition at that position because of the loss of Cole Sears. We are excited about our 4-year transfer players as well. Those players will add some variable experience at some key positions. We want to keep this momentum into our High School recruiting. We have put out some good offers to some very talented high school players. We believe Feb 6th will be a very exciting day for our program.”

Hayden Davis
Davis is transferring from Co-Lin Community College in Wesson, Mississippi. Davis plays quarterback and is going to help create a strong competition in this position for the Weevils, due to the loss of last years starting quarterback Cole Sears. At Co-Lin, Davis helped lead the Wolves to a winning season, where he had a pass completion percentage of 58.5% and threw the ball for 1,456 yards.

Lane Outlaw
Outlaw is a tight end coming to Monticello from Kosciusko, Mississippi. He will be transferring from Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi. Outlaw played on the offensive line for the Dogs last season, where they finished 5-4 in the season.

David Hogue
Hogue is a 6’0, 280 defensive lineman coming to UAM from Tyler Community College in Tyler, Texas. As an Apache, Hogue had 41 tackles last season. He had a total of 3 sacks and 7 tackles for loss. The Weevils look to make him a new member of their strong defensive front.

Jack Hendershot
Hendershot is originally from Forest, Mississippi, and will be transferring to Monticello from Northwest Mississippi Community College. He is a 6’4, 230 pound tight end to add to the Weevils’ Offense next season.
