A group of Star City community leaders has donated $75,0000 to create the Star Daze Festival Scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

The Star Daze Festival committee endowed the scholarship to serve UAM students from the southeast Arkansas region. Juniors and seniors who have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher will be eligible to apply. Recipients must be a resident of Bradley, Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Lincoln or Jefferson County, Arkansas. The funds may be available to students as soon as the fall 2020 semester for students to apply toward the expenses of attending college. Mark Owen, president of Connect Bank in Star City and Star Daze Festival committee member, said “this group takes a lot of pride in UAM and wants to make sure we continue to support students from our area who attend. We’ve been working a long time to make sure our gift could make a major impact for these students.” 

UAM Vice Chancellor for Advancement Jeff Weaver said, “we have a number of high-achieving upperclassmen students from our corner of the state, and we are thrilled to be able to increase the aid we can offer them while they pursue higher education close to home.” Private scholarships are endowed with the University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc. through the UAM Office of Advancement. The University of Arkansas at Monticello offers more than 70 distinct academic tracks for students seeking graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs at its three campuses. A part of the University of Arkansas System since 1971, UAM includes the Monticello campus, UAM College of Technology-Crossett, and UAM College of Technology-McGehee. UAM is ideally located to serve as a comprehensive system of postsecondary education in Southeast Arkansas, offering associate, baccalaureate, and selected master’s degrees, in addition to certificates of proficiency, and technical certificates.
