Sunday Storm Damage Update
December 21st, 2013 by iPhoneAfter a late Saturday night tour of a large area of the storm damaged area in Chicot County, MLive files this update.
Between 6-7 pm, Saturday evening, the National Weather Service confirmed several reports of damage in 3-4 bordering Southeast Arkansas counties.
Of the 4 18-wheelers reportedly flipped, 3 were northbound on HWY 65, between Bellaire Cut-Off Road and the HWY 35 intersection. The 4th trailer was not hooked to a truck, and was located at a nearby farm. 1 driver was injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
5 houses were heavily damaged, with 15 more houses sustaining minor damage.
HWY 65 was shut down, near the Chicot – Desha County line.
in what the National Weather Service calls a “likely tornado,” the highway reopened at 10 pm, after all big- rigs were removed.
Trees and power lines were also reported down in Drew County in line with the same storm, as it moved from Ashley County on it’s north east pathway.
