Toddler Poisoned by Dad’s Medication, Med-flighted to ACH

August 5th, 2014 by

ACH angel 1 jet

Late Saturday night, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies and MASI responded to a call on HWY 138 in reference to a 2 year old taking her fathers medication.

When authorities arrived, the child was unresponsive. The mother advised that she and the child were in one part of the residence, when the child went into the bedroom where the father was located. The mother stated that she later went into the room and observed her daughter unresponsive. She also reported seeing the pills around her daughter and the empty pill bottle. She woke the man, who was asleep in the bed, then called 911.

The child was transported to Drew Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital by their jet.

The Angel-1 jet landed around 2 am, at the Monticello Airport, with specially trained staff and treatment equipment, to rescue the toddler.

The child is currently stable and alert; it is unknown how many pills the child took.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to express to parents / guardians how important it is to keep all medications and other chemicals out of reach of children.

If you have medications that are expired, unused or just lying around, you can take them the Monticello Police Department’s pill-drop box.
