TEDxUAMonticello will take place on March 17, 20202 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello Fine Arts Center from 5pm-8pm. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, will feature local voices and TED Talks videos under the theme of “Turn the Page.”

Launched in 2009, TEDx is program of locally organized events that bring the community together to share a TED-like experience. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from o across the globe.

TEDxUAMonticello is an event focused on showcasing new ideas to the community of southeast Arkansas. It was first hosted in 2019 and is organized by faculty and students at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The event will feature ten talks from eleven speakers as well as a meet-and-greet session after the event where audience members can meet the speakers. The event is public and free tickets can be ordered on EventBrite or the TEDxUAMonticello Facebook page. The event will be livestreamed on the Facebook page as well.

“You don’t have to go to a big city to hear great ideas,” TEDxUAMonticello organizer Dr. Adam Key said. “We love that we’re able to feature innovative speakers in a small college town.”

Speakers at TEDxUAMonticello include:

• Jake “The Snake” Roberts & Brandy Woodson – The WWE Hall of Famer and his daughter will discuss how families can recover from addiction.
• Hans Hacker – Dr. Hacker will be speaking on how the solution to America’s political issues involves shifting from an individual to a collective mindset.
• Derrick Noble – Accomplished speaker Dr. Noble will teach the audience how to avoid the worst mistakes speakers make.
• Jennifer Lynn Robinson – The former attorney will speak on ways to find a new normal after a major life event.
• Steve Fredlund – As a humanitarian activist, Steve will discuss the importance of shared passion when accomplishing social good.
• Newton Miller – As a career educator, Dr. Miller will discuss all the ways to be a bad teacher and how we can avoid them.
• Carol Strong – In the continual battle of whether college is about job preparation or critical thinking, Dr. Strong will offer the solution of teaching students how to research.
• Michael Davila – Michael will speak on the importance of recognizing, valuing, and compensating emotional labor.
• Suzanna Guizar – As an exercise scientist, Dr. Guizar will discuss the health and life benefits of even small amounts of activity.
• Erin Clement – As a single mother putting herself through school, Erin will speak on the need for colleges to provide child care support to students.
