Superintendent’s Letter about Construction Decisions
June 5th, 2014 by iPhoneTo the Patrons of the Monticello School District:
The Monticello School District has always taken pride in its programs and facilities.
We have been fortunate to have the funds to provide our students with an outstanding academic program and with facilities that are among the best in South Arkansas. The Monticello School Community can be extremely proud of the progress we have made in the past 15 years. In developing the district’s Master Plan for 2014, a requirement of the Facilities Department of the Arkansas State Department of Education, the district is years ahead of schedule in providing a warm, safe and dry environment for our students. There have been many much needed projects completed over the past few years that have provided our students with up to date facilities that are attractive, clean and safe.
Over the past few years low interest rates on bonds have given us the opportunity to refinance those bonds and save the district many dollars in interest. There is, however, a restriction with these funds as they have to be used for construction and not salaries, programs, computers, books, etc.
The district feels that it is time to use these funds to continue our quest for providing excellent facilities for our students and our community. We always hope that improvement in our facilities will be helpful in attracting new families to the Monticello School District.
Some of the projects include:
1) Replace the Monticello High School Roof through a partnership project with the State of Arkansas.
2) Extend the parking/driving lane to pick up students at MES to get cars off of highway.
3) Replace painted concrete flooring in MIS and MMS kitchens with epoxy flooring for safety and sanitation.
4) Turf Hyatt Field
5) Build a Technology Building
6) Build a new dressing facility at Hyatt Field to get out of city property (pool) and move visiting team dressing to a refurbished dressing room. This will move our players out of a 50+ year old dressing room into a new facility.
There will be other projects recommended as needed.
We thank the patrons of the Monticello School District for your continued support!
Bob R. Harper, Superintendent
