A former Monticello school substitute teacher recently pled guilty to the charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor and hindering (her own) prosecution. As a part of the plea bargain, the state nolle prossed the charge of 2nd degree sexual assault, which had been filed as one of the original charges .
Kristy Leigh Meek, age 33 of Monticello, pled guilty in Drew County Circuit Court, to Judge Bynum Gibson, to the crimes, which according to court documents occurred on/around March 10–11, 2017.
The purported victim in the case was an 18-year-old male student, who was under the direction of Meek in her substitute teacher role.
Naturally, the prosecution and the defense in the case disagreed on how many days they spent in the classroom together, prior to the event.
The felony charge that Meek pled guilty to was for texting the victim in an attempt to get him to change his testimony.
Meek was sentenced to three years probation.

Sub-Teacher Arrested for Sex Assault with Student
March 22, 2017.
A substitute school teacher was arrested, Monday, for allegedly having relations with an 18-year-old student.
Kristi Meek, age 32, was a substitute teacher at Monticello School District’s ALE facility.
NOTE-The suspect is not to be confused with Mrs. Meeks that teaches at Drew Central.
The acts reportedly took place at an event that was unrelated to school activities in any way.
Substitute teachers are contracted through an outside agency, so Meek was not a direct employee of Monticello Schools.
After being arrested by Monticello Police, she was charged with sexual assault. Circuit Judge Steven Porch set her bond at $7,500, Monday afternoon. She has since bonded out of jail.
