Stolen John Deere Tractor Recovered
February 25th, 2019 by iPhoneAround 10 PM, February 6, a Wilmot police officer stopped a John Deere tractor on Cemetery Street in Wilmot.When the tractor stopped, the officer identified the driver, who said he was “borrowing the tractor”, because his truck was stuck in his yard.
He continued to say that he had tried to call the owner, but couldn’t reach him, and was going to return the tractor when he was finished with it.
The owner, a local businessman, was contacted and arrived on the scene. He told the officers he had not given anyone permission to use the tractor and wanted the suspect to be prosecuted.
Ricky Doyle Nelson, age 50 of Bastrop was taken into custody at that time. The tractor was returned to its owner.
The suspect, Ricky Nelson, was out on two different bonds involving felony charges from Ashley County. He was charged with theft of property, criminal trespassing, operating an ATV on the highway (he drove a side-by-side to the business where he took the tractor) and violation of bond conditions.
