Stolen Church Van Recovered with Bullet Holes & Dozens of Other Stolen Items
January 5th, 2019 by iPhoneA local church van, belonging to Shady Grove Baptist Church, located on Highway 425 south of Monticello,was stolen, Friday, December 28, or sometime before that date.
The vehicle’s theft was not noticed, until it was found abandoned on Greenfield Drive, backed up near the railroad track, stuck in the mud. Boards at the scene indicate that the thieves unsuccessfully used them to try to get the vehicle free.
Once notified, Monticello police quickly responded, finding bullet holes in the side of the van, and multiple windows shot out.
Inside of the van, were many items, fitting a wide variety of descriptions.
It turns out that after the van was stolen, it was then used in an apparent burglary inside the city limits. According to MPD, several of the stolen items have been returned to the owner.
The investigation is still underway.
