Status of McGehee Thanksgiving Murder Investigation
December 12th, 2014 by Joe BurgessFollowing the first degree murder hearing for McGehee man, age 26, for the death of his 33 year old girlfriend, also of McGehee, there have been several misleading rumors circulating.
Posted below is an update of the status of the case’s investigation.
A first appearance hearing was held on Monday, December 1, for the Thanksgiving weekend death of Rebekah Singh, against Danny Joe Burchfield. His bond was set at $500,000 by Circuit Judge Don Glover.
In that hearing, investigators reported that Burchfield had admitted to “choking and killing” Ms. Singh. He then led authorities to the area of Bayou Barthelomew, where he has placed her body.
Her remains were sent to the state crime lab. The preliminary autopsy report has been completed, finding a confirmation of strangulation as the cause of death.
McGehee Police and Arkansas State Police investigators are still working on the case, and plan to submit it to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office within a week, for formal filng of charges.
The probable charges against Burchfield are 1st Degree Murder and Abuse of a Corpse.
The “FaceBook rumor” that another person has also been arrested for “abuse of a corpse” is false. According to sources close to the case, “No one, aside other Burchfield, has been arrested in this case.”
