State of Drew County Address

February 15th, 2024 by

StateOfTheCountyState of Drew County Address as your County Judge (Jessie Griffin).

FINANCIAL

I am pleased to report that, from a financial standpoint, Drew County is currently in good standing. Our fiscal responsibility and prudent management of resources have allowed us to maintain stability and provide essential services to our community.

ROAD DEPARTMENT

One of the critical aspects of our county’s infrastructure is our road network, and I am proud to announce that the Road Department will continue its dedicated efforts to improve our roads, ditches, and overall maintenance. The hardworking men and women in our Road Department play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and accessibility of our transportation system.

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of our roads, we have devised a comprehensive plan to address various aspects, including road resurfacing. This plan takes into consideration the condition of our roads and the available budget. We understand the importance of having well-maintained and smooth roads for the convenience and safety of our residents.

While we may face challenges and limitations, rest assured that we are dedicated to making strategic and responsible decisions to prioritize the needs of our community. The resurfacing of roads will be implemented as the budget allows, and we will explore additional funding opportunities to expedite these improvements.

In the coming months and years, our administration will remain transparent and open to your feedback. We encourage active participation from the community to ensure that our decisions align with the needs and priorities of the people we serve. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more resilient Drew County.

COUNTY COURT HOUSE

Firstly, I am pleased to announce the completion of the basement waterproofing project, which was made possible through a grant we received. This important initiative ensures the longevity and integrity of our courthouse, safeguarding it against potential water damage and contributing to the preservation of essential records and facilities.

Furthermore, recognizing the importance of maintaining a comfortable and efficient working environment, I have submitted a grant request for the renovation of restrooms, the refurbishment of the courtroom, and the upgrade of other office spaces and hallways within the courthouse. These improvements aim to create a more modern, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing setting for both our employees and the public we serve.

I would also like to express our gratitude to Judge Robert Akin for spearheading the project to install new air conditioning units. The importance of a well-regulated climate within the courthouse cannot be overstated, and these new units will contribute to a more comfortable and conducive environment for everyone who enters our courthouse.

Again, as we continue to invest in the infrastructure and facilities of our county, rest assured that our commitment to transparency and accountability remains unwavering. We will keep you informed about the progress of these initiatives and welcome your input and feedback.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to enhance the functionality and appearance of our county courthouse for the benefit of all residents.

SANITATION DEPARTMENT

Our sanitation department has been diligently working on updating customer records, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in our services. The recent contract with Big Smith for household trash pickup has proven to be a success, providing reliable waste management services for the county. This partnership not only benefits the residents but also contributes to the overall cleanliness and well-being of our community.

In addition to these advancements, the landfill has undertaken significant improvements in its road system. This enhancement not only facilitates smoother operations but also ensures a more accessible and efficient way in and out of the landfill. Meeting the requirements set by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) underscores our commitment to responsible waste management practices, environmental stewardship, and compliance with state regulations.

OEM/911 OFFICE

I am pleased to report that our OEM/911 department is currently in excellent shape, meeting all requirements set forth by the State of Arkansas. The dedication of our emergency management and 911 personnel ensures the safety and well-being of our community members. This department plays a critical role in coordinating responses to emergencies, and their continued commitment is commendable.

CONTRACTOR WORK

The initiative to clean up over 5 tons of trash from our side county roads, including the removal of items such as tires, bumpers, barbecue grills, couches, and mattresses, reflects a dedication to maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of our surroundings. This concerted effort not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of our county but also demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility.

Moreover, the work of contractors in trimming limbs from over roadways is crucial for ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors. This ongoing effort to cover all roads speaks to the comprehensive approach we are taking to address the maintenance and safety of our public spaces.

HOSPITAL UPDATE

As you know the hospital is under new management (Baptist Health Care) which is charge to provide a great health care for the county. I feel that it was a positive move to allow the county better management of the facility.

APPRECIATION TO ALL EMPLOYEE

I want to express my sincere appreciation to every county employee who has contributed to the success and high standards we have achieved. Your dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and I am proud to be part of a team that is making Drew County a shining example of what a community can achieve through collaboration and a shared vision.

As we embark on the journey into 2024, I am confident that with the continued commitment of our county employees and the support of our community, we will build upon our successes and make this year even greater. Thank you all for your dedication, and let us move forward together toward a prosperous and successful 2024.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to make Drew County a safer, cleaner, and more efficient place for everyone. Together, we will continue to build a stronger and more resilient community.
