Bowser Road Shooting Followed Meth Use

March 16th, 2015 by

DCSO badge On March 9, Drew County Dispatch received a call from a male subject stating that a 33 year old  Drew County man had placed a gun to a womans head at his fathers residence on Bowser Road.

When Drew County Deputies arrived on scene, along with an AG&F officer, they attempted to make contact with the suspect and or victim, were in sucessful.

After contact was made with the owner of the residence, law enforcement was allowed into the home. Officers learned from  the suspect’s father, that Eric Coon, his son, was in his room but was not believed to have a real gun but instead a Co2 pistol.

Coon’s father attempted to get him to come out of the room to speak to law enforcement but Coon did not reply. His father then advised authorities to push the door open and just go in.

When entry was made into the room Coon was observed on the bed with his arm around the alleged female victim. Coon then pulled a pistol (a 38 special) pointing it at law enforcement. A brief struggle pursued over the gun but Coon was able to maintain control of the gun.he was ordered several times to put the gun down but he did not comply.

Coon repeatedly pointed the gun at law enforcement and himself, a Taser was deployed striking Coon at this time. Coon sustained a single self inflicted gun shot wound to the head and was transported to UAMS in Little Rock for Medical attention where it is said that he is stable condition at this time.

It was reported to Law Enforcement by the alleged female victim that Coon and herself were under the influence of Meth at the time of the incident. A case file has been submitted to Prosecutor Thomas Deens office for review and potential charges against Coon for the following charges. Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Assaulting a Law Enforcement Officer, Terroristic Threatening, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Person and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

All I can say is this is the most disrespectful post I have ever seen. there are still family members that have not seen this and some of the statements are hear say. NOT FACTS!!
The police department was supposed to submit the police report to the family when it was ready. But instead we have to read it “PUBLICLY POSTED”
The family of the true victim, eric coon, is asking everyone not to share or repost this.
    Please have some respect.

  2. Joe Marcum says:

That guy is lucky. The officers should have fired if he refused to comply and had the gun pointed at them.

  3. nancy says:

I think Mr. Joe does a pretty good job of getting information out to the public. He is suppose to be impartial and report what happens regardless of who the people are. If people don’t want their name in the news then they need to stay out of trouble.

  4. FFH says:

All I have to say is that the “Female” victim is the one that brought the drugs into the home so how are they able to charge ERIC with this? PLEASE do further investigation before you publish your information. Our Family deserves some respect. The “Female” victim is not a innocent bystander in this situation and she was not “KIDNAPPED”. Please get your facts straight.

  5. KR says:

    Freedom of the press !!
Many times people loves to see news(good news and bad for aspect of gossip) but when it “hits home”, then people seems to have a problem with it. Many people dont like their truth being revealed. I’ve found out that its easier to just do right than to do wrong. If they were on METH, I wouldn’t count them as victims but people caught up in a life a bad choices. I appreciate Monticellolive for keeping us updated on current Monticello news.

  6. GRANMAW says:

HIS daddy was there that is the main family. Hope his family gets him help.Poor girl will need help to. Nothing disrespectful about this news.JMO

  7. no one important says:

in reference to GRANMAW, i do hope his family will be able to get him help. But in regards to that “poor girl” the only way she will ever get help is to be locked up for the rest of her life. This is not the first “boyfriend” she has had that has been shot. To the DSCO and the MPD go find her and pick her up!!!

  8. Nothing New says:

The man’s father was there and actively involved the incident. You can’t get much more “next of kin” than that. No other news station would wait until all relatives were notified before reporting on a gun crime. Seems like someone is just looking for something to criticize.

  9. Rational Thinker says:

It doesn’t matter who brought the drugs into the home. If he didn’t want to partake in the illegal activity, he could have told her to go out the same way she came in. That’s obviously not what happened though. The both of them deserve punishment, and it doesn’t appear that the young man OR woman is a “victim” in this dramatic story. Joe reports the news, which is his main duty as a NEWS reporter. There’s nothing disrespectful about that. He’s simply a man doing his job.

  10. common man says:

In this country we are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. So how about newspapers stop posting alleged actions.

  11. common sense says:

some of you people are so stupid! do you actually think about what you are saying? the dude was high on dope. his dad called the cops on him because he had the gun to her head. the cops came and instead of putting the gun down he pointed at them. i dont really know what you expect to happen when you point a gun at cops. in my opinion the cops wwent out of their way and took a risk they didnt have to take by tasing him instead of shooting him. you should be thanking them for choosing less than lethal when they would have been justified not to. and as for the newspaper….have you ever heard of the 1st amendment? hearsay and innocent until proven guilty have nothing to do with a newspaper. when he is in court im sure hearsay will not be admitted as evidence and he will be presumed innocent until proven guilty. i get so sick of people crying when some dumb but does something dumb and reaps the consequences. what do you think the cops should do? “well hes pointing a gun at us i guess we should bake him some cookies and pour him some milk”

  12. freedom of speech says:

First off, if you weren’t interested in reading about issues and concerns in Monticello, you wouldn’ t be on Monticello live in the first place to know what’s on here. Secondly Joe is a News reporter, key word here being NEWS, this story is News like it or not. One cannot be upset because he does his job! He only reports what is reported. So I suggest you call the father and ask him why he called the police in the first place. As for the charges I do believe that if I still remember how to read, and I sure I can read, I am pretty sure that what Joe reported was “A case file has been submitted to Prosecutor Thomas Deens office for review and potential charges against Coon for the following charges. Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Assaulting a Law Enforcement Officer, Terroristic Threatening, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Person and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia”. The key word here is Potential.
