Sheilla Lampkin’s Letter & Announcement of Withdrawal
July 21st, 2016 by iPhoneDistrict 9 State Representative Sheilla Lampkin announced Tuesday she plans to withdraw from her current bid for re-election to the 2017-2018 term, citing health issues as the reason for her departure from the race.
Lampkin has served District 9 in the Arkansas House of Representatives for six years, and intends to serve the rest of her current term, which ends on Dec. 31, 2016.
“It has been a joy and a privilege to serve you these past six years, I will finish out this term and then respectfully resign my position.”
Mrs. Lampkin said she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and will be receiving treatment.
“With surgery and chemo and the results unknown, I felt it is only fair to you to elect someone to serve you faithfully and diligently. May God bless you all,”
Lampkin asked that a “viable worthy Democratic candidate step up and represent Drew and Portions of Ashley County.
Since she is withdrawing from the race, the Drew County Democratic Party will have to replace her on November general election ballot to give Hall an opponent. Zack Tucker, a member of the Drew County Party Committee, said the Arkansas Democratic Party Chair will appoint delegates to a district convention, which would include Democrats from both Drew County and the portions of Ashley County included in District 9.
“We are unsure if there will be a filling period for potential candidates to file or if the delegates appointed will nominate potential candidates,” Tucker said.
No date has been announced of the district convention. However, Tucker said it will likely be very soon because of election deadlines.
