Sexual Assault Suspect, Who Attempted Suicide, Appears In Court, Monday
July 20th, 2018 by iPhoneJudge Sam Pope was in Drew County circuit court, Monday, for multiple criminal case hearings. This case was on his docket, for an update and evaluation.
Circuit court records indicate that on July 23, 2014, Kenneth H. Willis committed the crime of sexual assault, 2nd degree in Drew County, involving 2 boys, approximately 9 years old.
During the initial investigation, Willis denied the accusations, but then admitted to it, claiming that “it was a dare.”
ASP crimes against children was notified and Willis was taken into custody by the DCSO.
Court records also indicate that on December 7, 2015, Willis attempted to commit suicide. As a result, he has been residing in a local nursing home, unable to care for himself. Court records indicate that since that time, he has been operating with approximately 2/3 of his brain function. Records also state that he is partially paralyzed.
Court orders require that he stay in that facility. However on July 6, a relative checked him out of that facility, to reside with them. Although he has been returned to the nursing home, the court was required to examine the case, where a motion for a fitness to proceed was called for.
Due to the lemgth of time involved in mental evaluations, no activity is expected in the upcoming months.
