SEARK Reading Council Hosted Zoom Meeting
February 3rd, 2021 by SubmittedSEARK Reading Council hosted their second zoom meeting of the year on January 25, 2021. SEARK sponsored a writing contest for grades first through twelfth grade. The winners of the Young Writers’ Competition were recognized and read their winning writing pieces to the audience. Students wrote a narrative titled “My Hero”. Parents, relatives and members were on hand to celebrate the students’ accomplishments. Local winners were submitted to a state writing contest sponsored by the Arkansas Literacy Association. Winners of this event will be announced in April.
The winners were: 2nd-3rd grade division: 1st place-Gabriel Birdwell – Rison Elementary;
2nd place-Summer Weatherspoon-Lakeside Elementary School; 4th-5th grade division:1st place-MaKaleigh Wilkerson-Brunson Elementary School;2nd place-Briana Stanfill-Brunson Elementary School; 6th-7th grade division: 1st place-Parker Arnold-Woodlawn Elementary School; 2nd place-Cash Hargis-Woodlawn Elementary School; 8th-9th grade division: 1st place-Bryleigh Myers-Star City High School; 2nd place-Taylor York-Star City High School;3rd place-Adrianna Summit-Star City High School; 10th-12th grade division; 1st place-Sabina Day-Monticello High School. All winners received a metal, certificate , and a cash prize.
Our last meeting of the year will be a Celebration of Literacy on April 26, 2021. Literacy Award winners and new officers for the next year will be announced.
