SEARK Man Arrest for Murder, with Cause of Death listed as “Fire”
January 4th, 2019 by iPhoneWednesday, Anthony Brown, age 49 of Parkdale, was convicted of Murder in the First Degree.
Around 11 o’clock, New Year’s eve, Ashley County Sheriffs Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of School Street in Parkdale, in reference to an incident where a man, later identified as Jesse Burton (47 years old}, was injured,
Allegedly, Brown had thrown gasoline on Burton, setting him on fire. Mr Burton died as a result of his injuries.
The jury could not reach a unanimous decision on the sentence
Judge Bynum Gibson sentenced Brown to life in prison. In Arkansas, a life sentence means life.
The deputy prosecutor Frank Spain, who represented the state, commented, “I am pleased with the jury’s findings and the court’s sentence. ”

The victim was transported to the Chicot Memorial Hospital by Ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.
Anthony Dewayne Brown, age 49 of Parkdale, was taken into custody by ACSO Deputies, with assistance of Portland Police, around 4 AM, and New Year’s morning.
Brown will likely be charged with 1st Degree Murder.
A First Appearance Hearing was conducted on Wednesday by Circuit Judge Sam Pope, with bond was set at $250,000.00.
The sheriffs department has confirmed that the cause of death was by a fire.
This is still an on-going investigation and all information will be turned over to 10th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Deen’s office.
