School Bus Rollover in Ashley County
September 14th, 2018 by iPhoneDuring Wednesday’s afternoon Hamburg School District bus route, a school bus with 22 students slid off into the road ditch in the Sardis area, south of Collins and Wolf Creek Baptist Camp. The bus then rolled onto the drivers side.
According to ACSO Sheriff Tommy Sturgeon, many students were transported to Lake Village and Crossett hospitals, along with the bus driver. All were treated for minor injuries, then released. Sources told MLive that the most serious case was a nose injury, and “no bones were broken. “
Tracy Streeter, Superintendent of Hamburg School District told us, “We could not be more proud of the Ashley County Sheriff’s Department, the Hamburg School District Administrators and staff, the paramedics and ACMC for the way this accident was handled. We take student safety very seriously and our action proved this. We had administrators located at hospitals because we did not want a student to show up without any support. We had Administrators at the scene to physically help and for emotional support. Each office in the district was occupied to answer phone calls and to contact parents.”
Streeter continued, “When students arrived at the hospital they were greeted by a team of caring school officials and hospital personnel. At each place our people went to work to take care of business. We did our best to communicate as clearly and quickly to the community what took place. I am very appreciative that they allowed us to do our job. Again,I am grateful for the results and want to say thank you to all that were involved in helping.”

As a concerned parent and grandparent of children’s in another district I would like to know what the district’s are doing to educate our students about evacuating a roll-over bus situation? I have asked my children about evacuation procedures in case of a bad accident and they have no clue. I think it’s time for us to be more than just a little worried, these kids need to know they are not alone.
