January 26th, 2021 by Joe Burgess
At 3:30, Monday afternoon, a Nissan Cube collided with the rear of a Drew Central school bus, just past the 35 split of 278 E., at the I Monticello airport.
According to Kimbraly Barnes, Drew Central superintendent, who was at the scene, no students were injured, and were being transferred to another bus for the ride to their homes.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan Cube were transported by SEEMS, with at least one of them traveling towards Little Rock, in hopes of meeting a helicopter for faster transport. Monticello Police Department, Monticello Fire & Rescue, Arkansas Highway Patrol, DCSO, OEM and MASI also responded. Arkansas State Police are investigating the crash.
Note from Superintendent:
my son has a bad headache and hurt his knees ( he was literally getting off of this bus, when the collision occurred… I’d strongly suggest that ” slow ” and “bus stop children crossing” sings plus an officer be in this area mornings and afternoons ( during bus times… these young children have a constant battle just boarding and unsettling on and off of the bus… just this morning a vehicle almost hit 3 kids trying to board the bus…. enough is enough! We as parents worry about our children bring safe… 1st Covid , now people zipping around stopped busses???!!!..
Time to take this stuff seriously, protect our kids!
