School Board Updated on Plans, Progress, Reports, & Concerns
October 22nd, 2014 by Sarah SpencerThe Monticello School Board met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday.
A number of reports were reviewed and approved, including the Accident Prevention and Safety Plan, the District Crisis Plan, Emergency Action Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan.The Board also approved the district’s Workmen’s Compensation Plan for 2014-2015.
Dr. Betty Gragg addressed the Borad with the Equity Compliance Report and Minority Recruitment Plan.
In response to Dr. Gragg’s presentation, School Board member Mr. Keith Wells addressed the Board with his concerns that there are no minority teachers in the lower grade levels. He stated that he has received phne calls from minority teachers who are well qualified, but have been unable to get even an interview with the school as potential employee candidates. He strongly encouraged the school district to be aware and take steps toward hiring minority teachers.
The Board discussed and approved work on the MEW driveway and parking lot, and additional sidewalks at Hyatt Field.
They also discussed the baseball batting cage canopy, siding for the softball canopy, refurbishing gym floor and repairs for the OEC roof, gutters and need for additional classrooms.
