School Board Member “Reprimanded” for Cursing/ Threatening Coach in Front of Players & Parents

Who: Keith Wells, elected member of Monticello school board.
When: Thursday, October 11, after the MJHS football game.
Where: Hyatt Field, Monticello.
What: According to the attached documents, Keith Wells approached the junior high football coach, Tyler Cox, after the game, angered by the amount of playing time that his son had received in the game.
Comments included in the statements refer to Wells’ cursing the coach and threatening to have the coach fired from his position.
Superintendent Sandra Lanehart issued this short statement about the situation, “Board Members are elected by the patrons of the Monticello School District and the administration does not direct or control their actions. Any person attending a District even regardless of their title or affiliation must abide by all District policies.”
Wells has been advised that any situation in the future of this nature will result in him being banned from any further activities/events on Monticello school campuses, as would be the case with any other parent or resident.
Wells’ letter of apology to the board, is also attached.
