MADD MHS Mock DWI Crash–VIDEO
April 17th, 2009 by Joe BurgessThis year’s MADD sponsored DWI mock accident was held on the parking lot area of the Monticello High School, Monday.
This year’s event was held in honor of Dustin “Rooster” Ferguson.

The second covers Steve Brantley’s comments about the event.
The last video is of Dustin Ferguson’s mother’s statements from Monday, which was the first time she has spoken publicly about the wreck that took Dustin’s life.

Dustin’s parents came out to speak for the first time since the accident. His mom told the students attending, “Sept. 22, 2008, two days after his 19th birthday, our son lost his life from a drunk driver. One choice of an indivdual changed our lives and our community. I stand before you as Dustin’s voice. His plans and his dreams could not be achieved because of the choice of another. Remember your choice affects everyone.”

Steve Brantley, of Mothers Against Drunk Driving told the students that 1 out of 10 American families will be affected by a Drunk Driving Crash, and had victims and their families come forward, which emphasized that fact.
Area pastors and youth pastors also attend, to minister to those who may have sought counseling.
Student actors, Megan Rainboat and Kailyn Davis both lost someone to a drunk driving accident. Megan Rainboat played the deceased student on the way to prom, and Kailyn Davis played an injured student on the way to prom.
Organizations supporting this year’s event include; Monticello Police Dept., Drew County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police, Monticello Fire Dept., Monticello Schools, Drew Memorial Hospital, Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home, SouthEast Emergency Services, Monticello Ambulance Service, Air-Evac, Triple A Towing, Ray’s Drive In, Rick Hales Satellite, Town & Country Florist, and Mother’s Against Drunk Driving.
The drama students of Monticello High School did the make-up for the student actors.
Rob Chastain, a helicopter coordinator with the AirEvac team commented, “If this saves one person’s life, then it’s worth the effort we’ve put into it.”
MHS Principal Kenny Pennington encouraged all junior and seniors students to, “Make a promise to yourself and you family that you will have a safe, clean prom this Saturday.”

any one with kids needs to by this to show them what
driveing or letting some one drive when thay have had a drink
can do to them,therepassenger or any one hit while drinking and driveing
if it changes one mind it might save more then that one.
Unfortuantely, not only those under 21 need to see this but also – so called adults. Responsibility does not automatically come with the 21st birthday! Drinking and driving do not mix!!!!!

So true, Mashakawon Jurnasue. The woman who killed Dut wasn’t a teenager, but if we catch them young maybe we can prevent this as they age. Dustin had such an influence on everyone he met and even if he weren’t my great-nephew, I would have considered myself honored to have been known and loved by him. I love and miss you Rooster, especially on this, your 20th birthday and Tuesday, the anniversary of your death. Say no to drunk, high, drowsy and distracted driving! You and your car can be a lethal weapon! One moment of distraction can end a life!!!
