This is a real issue. Good luck with the G&F part, they will do like last time, and only select a “few” of the PRO’s as they called them, and let a certain number bowfish it. It’s not fair to the rest of us that have money and time invested in bowfishing setups and enjoy the sport also.
It should be “Open” and let anyone who can to fish it. I didn’t know that lake was made for the upper class, and the rest not get to fish it.
That lake has been going down for a long time. It’s hard to catch bream and crappie out there. The bass look skinny and sick most of the summer. I think they need 1) more cover, 2) move food (tilapia in the summer). There are other fisherman besides Bass also.
That lake is in bad need of some attention, and it did generate a lot of money for the hotels, and local food stops as well as the gas stations.
Kinda sad.
For what it’s worth, It needs done, and all the carp taken out. G&F made this problem, as well as the stripers that are out there and the white bass. Buying “Shad” for the Bass and you get a lot of trash with it.
please open it up to bowfishing!
sounds like the benifits of having cover and vegetation far out weigh the slight chance of a trophy bass being shot.
most bowfishermen that i have been fishing with wont shoot at a fish if they even think its a bass…
trophy bass lakes around the country allow bowfishing and still put out huge fish!
another thing, opening the lake to bowfishing wont cost the city a dime! having someone come in and remove the carp will be very costly!
X2, won’t cost a dime. It will probably even generate some $$$ for the City!
Great job James! Thank You
The carp really need to be out of there! The bass fishing at the lake sucks it ain’t like it used to be. There is no place in shallow water for them to hide. I bowfish and bass fish and if they would let me bowfish lake Monticello I would loved to go shot just carp out of it.

Not sure how many can see that thread. The fish look sick, and Monticello is getting a bad wrap on the bass end.
