Registered Child Sex Offender Sentenced to 1-6 Years in Prison
January 9th, 2008 by Joe BurgessDarnell Crosswhite, of HWY 278 East, Monticello, was previously required to register as a “child sex offender” in a Mississippi court, according to court records.
Crosswhite went before the Drew County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, charged as a “sex offender working with children”.
Although the Prosecuting Attorney’s office had reportedly agreed to a plea bargain of 3 years probation, Circuit Judge Bynum Gibson refused to let that plea agreement stand, and sentenced Crosswhite to 1-6 years in the Dept. of Correction.
The Circuit Court will hold a hearing on Feb. 19 to determine exactly how long Crosswhite’s 1-6 sentence will be.
After his hearing Crosswhite was released on an earlier bond, but with the stipulation that if he is found in the company of any child under the age of 18, he will be arrested on a $20,000 bond, and brought before Judge Gibson, again.

I applaud Judge Gibson for NOT upholding that bogus deal the Prosecution set up. 1-6 years is MUCH better than 3 years of probation. (What was the Prosecutor THINKING?!)
I just hope that the sentence is more like the 5 or 6 years, rather than 1 or 2.
I understand that it is the law…but how is it that laws make it so easy for child molesters to re-offend, and someone can spend 40 years in prison for drug charges? Doesn’t this seem a bit backwards?
I agree with Brandy. That is so backwards, how come a person gets sentenced to 25-30 for robbery or drug dealings, and child molesters get 1-6yrs…..i’d personally would like to see all sex offenders in jail for as long as the robbers or drug dealers….Child Molesters are ranked with the Killers and everything else…that is just as bad if not worse than Drug dealing……That is my opinion, and my opinion only….it’s not to offend anyone or to talk about this guy at all. i don’t know him so i’m not personally talking about him.
That was not near long enough for somebody like that. He deserves a life term.
I so agree with Brandy and Hello. I’m not allowed to say what I really think on this forum. But it doesn’t make sense sometimes on what the extent of time one gets for their crimes. As a parent, I would rather see the dealer back on the street than a child predator roaming freely any day. You can help people kick a drug/alchohol addiction but the mental trauma a predator inflicts on a young one condems that child to a lifetime of mental, social, and physical problems in which the majority never fully recover from, ever. I can only wish this person stays in longer than his sentence allows. And I believe we all know how inmates detest child predators. Good old fashion jail house justice. And that’s all I’m gonna say about that.
