Regional Jail Officially Being Built in Warren
June 5th, 2020 by Joe BurgessDrew County Judge Robert Akin confirmed Thursday morning that he has been officially notified that the Southeast Arkansas Regional Jail will be built in Warren.
At a recent Warren City Council meeting, it was reported that land in the Warren industrial park had been deeded to the jail operator.
When asked, Judge Akin stated that he had hoped it would be built in Drew County, but the decision was made to build it in Warren. He added, “it’s good that we are finally moving forward, and we will have a modern facility to house Drew County inmates.”
The county has been struggling for years with the rising cost of housing 30 Dash 40 inmates in our current jail situation.
