Regional Jail Canceled by LaSalle / Bradley County – Video

According to SalineRiverChronicle, most of the discussion at Monday’s Bradley County Economic Development Corp. board meeting concerned the disposition of the Southeast Arkansas Regional Jail.
LaSalle Corrections recently informed Bradley County Quorum Court that it would be economically unfeasible for the company to build and maintain the jail. However, company officials left open the possibility that the county itself could arrange to build a $30 million facility using revenue bonds.

Wow!!! $30M plus $$$ to staff and maintain a local prison that would essentially be used lock up people owing old fines or persons who would benefit from early intervention such as rehab/outreach programs rather than incarceration. Looks as if voters would prefer to have teen centers built that would potentially stave off law breaking on the front end rather than establishing a “put them away” facility on the back end. Building more or larger jails has proven to NOT be the answer in this incarcerated nation.
