Rails Being Laid at Industrial Park
October 23rd, 2013 by Joe BurgessAfter months of dirt moving by city and county workers, as well as the UAM heavy equipment training class, rails and crossties are now being laid in place for the new rail spur at the Industrial Park, on HWY 35 East.
When completed the new rail spur will extend to the existing spur at Hood Packaging, for loading and unloading of cargo. This will likely begin with lumber. Price Lumber and occasionally Maxwell Hardwood load rail freight at the Jackson Street crossing, currently.
“It is rare for a community to have the opportunity to meet the needs of several industries with a single project which also prepares the community for growth.” said Nita McDaniel, of the MEDC.
Earlier projects included the overlay of HWY 35 railroad crossing and the Hood Packing spur project.
