Quorum Court Approves Continuation of County Employee Insurance – Library Not Included as “County Employees”
November 20th, 2012 by Joe BurgessMonday night, the quorum court approved Qual Choice, represented by Tommy McLemore and Employers Insurance Consultants of Monticello, to continue providing the county employee insurance.
Here are the details….
Employees should expect a 16.2% increase over last year’s premiums. This is based on the overwhelming increase of medical expenses they covered last year. Since Qual Choice also considers lower expenses from previous years, the Quorum Court felt it was better to renew with Qual Choice, than ask for bids for the employee’s insurance.
This is expected to raise employee’s insurance rates by $67/ month or $780/year
Other issues that were taken into consideration….
Library employees will not be included in “county employees” and will begin their own policies.
An estimated 10 county employees will be transferring to Medicare.

This seems to me to be a ridiculously high amount to be raising premiums. Most of the County employees are already at poverty level! Does anyone else think there is something wrong with this picture?
I agree this is way too much. Find another insurance company, pay raise for them or something. I know some of the people and they can barely make it as is. City pays for there insurance
Oh yeah Lee.
