Possible Gas Leak Moves Inmates to Excercise Yard – Update
May 24th, 2012 by Joe BurgessAround 10:30, this morning, a jailer notified Sheriff Mark Gober about the odor of gas in the County Detention Facility.
That was quickly followed by Centerpoint Energy arriving to pressure check lines, to see if the gas odor was internal or external.
The Detention Facility’s 30 inmates were moved to the secure exercise yard.
The Monticello Fire Dept. is also assisting, with MPD chief Eddy Deaton also present.
Sheriff Gober told MLive that the Ashley County jail had agreed to temporarily house the inmates, which would be transported by the CDF”s van and MPD police cars.
The building was approved for public use between noon and 1 pm, and everything went back into normal operation.
