Political Announcement- Ronnie Carr

January 31st, 2017 by

Ronnie CarrWho is Ronny Carr? That is a question many people have asked since he announced his intent to run for Mayor of Monticello.

Born to Gene and Irma Carr, Ronny was raised in the Delta as the oldest of three children. Most of his early life was spent making the most of very humble circumstances, and he quickly learned an appreciation for the value of hard work and the importance of education. His parents farmed, provided a flying service, and eventually owned and operated “Big Ben’s Truck Stop”. Carr learned valuable lessons of trust and business ethics while working for his parents. “I grew up in a time where a man’s word and a handshake were all you needed to seal a deal. Even though the times have changed somewhat since then; I still believe that the people of Monticello want that type of integrity from their leaders.” says Carr.

Carr attended college at The University of Arkansas at Monticello, eventually obtaining his degree in Agriculture Business. Carr reflects on his time at the university very fondly and understands its importance. “So many people are looking for jobs in our community. It is vital that our industries return to south Arkansas. Having UAM here helps to create an educated workforce through its Associates, Bachelors, and Technical programs. Support for our university is in turn support for our community.”

While attending UAM, Ronny also met the love of his life, his wife Wrenetta Ross-Carr. The two went on their first date on a Friday night, and he proposed marriage to her the following Saturday. Providing a clear example that he is not only a man of words, but also of swift action. “No use just sitting around waiting and talking about things. Just get it done!” Carr exclaims.

While making their permanent home in Monticello, Ronny and Wrenetta expanded their family to include three daughters and six grandchildren. Carr is emphatic about the role of family in society today. “My family will always be my greatest accomplishment. I am so thankful that I was able to raise my daughters in such a wonderful place as Monticello. This has always been a place for families, and I will work hard to keep it that way should I be selected as mayor.”

Experience is one of Ronny’s strongest attributes. He has been a private business owner, managed farms in both Texas and Louisiana, serve as county extension agent, and has twenty-plus years working as a loan officer for Farm Credit Services.

Carr is very clear as to what his mission statement will be as mayor.
“I am not a politician. Running for political office is not something I thought I would ever do. However, I do know how to communicate and listen to the concerns of those around me. I have no ‘party agenda’; only respect for my fellow citizens and a genuine desire to help. I feel that my financial background can help me provide a great service to Monticello. The role of mayor is one that is administrative in nature, but one that also requires strong and steadfast leadership. Inspiration is necessary to move a society forward, and I have a passion to inspire. Monticello is full of great people with great ideas that need to be heard. I am very confident in my ability to give consideration to the suggestions of those around me; while also exercising the wisdom to lead and choose the correct path to success. I promise to always have an open door and a listening ear. My ultimate goal is to promote and protect the best interests of our city and unify us as a community. When we all work together, nothing can stop us.”

Ronny Carr would appreciate your consideration for the position of Mayor of Monticello in the upcoming election.
