Perez Hearing Final Hour – Grievance Claim Denied
September 26th, 2023 by Joe Burgess
Around 3 pm, Gibson began calling 5 jailers to explain their statements and feelings about Perez’ words and actions, during that jail meeting.
Hicks questioned each witness, as did the JPs.
Gibson began his closing arguments at 3:30.
He pointed out that this case was not about racism, freedom of speech, or discrimination.
At 3:30, Hicks closed his case by saying that Nichols and Perez’ relationship went bad after that video of someone talking about Perez running for Sheriff.
Hicks concluded his argument by stating if that’s not the reason for determination, then everyone sure is upset because this man said “ bull$#|+.”
At 3:50, the JP’s voted to go into executive session to discuss their deliberation.
At 4:40 both attorneys were called into the deliberation chamber with the JP’s.
At 4:50 the JP‘s came out and took the vote and agreed that the plaintive did not reach. His burden of proof and the discrimination case was denied, by both of 6–3.
The court then adjourned.
