Parents Arrested for Fighting, after Kid’s School Bus Argument
March 15th, 2024 by Joe BurgessAccording to police reports, on March 5th around 4:30pm, MPD responded to a call about several parties fighting at the Highway 278 trailer park.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with Mrs. Gaines, who stated that on the bus her son was “roasting” a female and the only way she could get him to shut up was to spray him with water and they then got into a argument.
When they arrived to the Indian Mounds bus stop, he told his mother.
Mrs. Gaines then took him to the address stated above to “take care of the problem.”
Once they got there Mrs. Gaines went to talk to the other mother, Mrs. McDaniels, whose daughter stepped in and said “are you going to handle the problem.”
Mrs. Gaines than said the daughter pushed her and she was jumped by Serita McDaniels and a combination of unknown juvenile persons.
A fight between the two adult mothers followed.
Mrs. Gaines had visible injury to the right side of her face and the back of her clothes where wet to indicate an assault had happened.
Mrs. McDaniels stated that her kids got home from school, when Mrs. Gaines came over with her kids and started yelling at her, saying the kids got into it on the bus.
She continued by saying that Mrs. Gaines then assaulted her daughter and had her on the ground, that’s when McDainels struck Mrs.Gaines.
In conclusion both McDainels and Gaines admitted a fight took place and they both claimed self defense.
Both individuals showed injuries from the altercation.
It was unable to be determined who the original aggressor is, so both parties involved are charged with Battery in the 3rd Degree.
Both parties wished to press charges.
An authority in the case commented that the appropriate way to have handled an argument between students on school property, or on a bus, would have been to contact school authorities, instead of setting, the example that these parents sent.
