Parent Addresses School Board about Bus Policy
April 8th, 2014 by iPhoneA concerned parent recently addressed the Monticello School Board Tuesday evening about his concern that the current bus stop policy can sometimes create a safety risk for students who ride the school bus. The policy that is currently in use states that a school bus will not drive to a student’s home to pick up or drop off the child if the child lives less than one-fourth of a mile from the bus stop. The parent expressed concern that requiring a child to walk that distance to and from home on some of the remote rural roads in the county may place the child at excessive risk from traffic-related incidents, abduction, or any number of other situations that could arise. He asked the School Board to please keep that in mind when reviewing their policies.

I believe this parent has a legitimate concern. We hear of abductions in other places, but we are not immune.
