Go, Hogs, Go! Literally.

September 24th, 2012 by

The City of Monticello allows residents to keep dogs, cats, chickens, horses and any other pet or farm animal; except for pigs and hogs.

However, there is a resident who owns hogs.  The city has recently spoken with him several times, and he has promised to have them removed this weekend.

So today we can say “Go, Hogs, Go”, and not just because the Razorbacks are playing football.

We loved water skiing and boating and having so many siblings made everything fun… I had a pretty good life.” “My grandparents were great, they were here in Monticello. (Albert and Willie Mae Hobbs, and Jim and Toni Holcomb – they were a big part of my life. I was rotten because they treated me so great.” “Willie Mae is my last living grandparent.”

Hurricane Isaac – In Perspective, by a Local Resident with LA Roots

September 4th, 2012 by

Some of you may be familiar with the “Shrimp Guy” that sells fresh gulf shrimp from time to time on the parking lot of ReMax. That guy is Todd Tassin and I am proud to say that he is my brother-in-law. He and his family live in Slidell, La just outside of New Orleans. He sustained knee deep water in his house from Issac. They are having to get rid of everything that was touched by the water as God only knows what the water brings in and he has three small girls.

This is the pile of stuff in front of his house after three days of gutting the house and ripping out sheetrock. Almost every house in his neighborhood looks like this. Police have to guard the entrance to his neighborhood to make sure people can’t just come take items from their piles as the insurance adjusters have to come inspect them before anything can be disposed of in any way.

Insecure Home Security Salesmen Invade Monticello

August 29th, 2012 by

Recently, a young door-to-door salesman came to my home, representing the “cutting edge” home security firm Vivint. I heard his sales pitch and promises, along with his list of satisfied customers.  I’m glad I didn’t purchase his promises, since the next day I asked the MPD officer he described as a “satisfied customer” with Vivint, and he told me he had never met (or done business) with them.
