Election Results – Robert Akin Wins County Judge Race – Totals by Ward

New County Judge Robert Akin, being congratulated by former candidate Jessie Griffin, Tuesday night.

Robert Akin, the independent candidate, won Tuesday night’s run-off election and will be the next Drew County Judge.

Robin Hood, the chief deputy of the Sheriff’s Dept. won the general election, but lost to Akin in the run-off.

The final,unofficial ballot totals by voting wards are posted below.

Illinois Parolee Threating to “Kill Everyone at the House” Arrested with Handgun Gets $50,000 Bond

A Wilmar man was arrested Wednesday, after he threatened to kill everyone at a local residense . A witness reported to police that the man had a black and chrome pistol when he made the threats.

Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies soon located the suspect, and while sheriff’s deputies where searching him, he dropped a small black and chrome handgun.

“Black Friday” Started Thursday Night

“Walmart had everything but parking places.”

This photo shows the Walmart parking area a few minutes before the annual “Black Friday” shopping day started at 8 pm, Thursday night.

There weren’t any “bad shopper” problems reported to police, although some video games and houseware customers came close.

 


Pauline Baptist Church – Thanksgiving Meal Ministry Reaches Out to around 500 Residents

Pauline Baptist Church wishes you Happy Thanksgiving, but that’s not where Thanksgiving ends for the group of  75 volunteers that gave up their Thanksgiving day to minister to others.

This morning, they prepared, packed, and delivered meals to over 475 local residents, and served several more to people  that came to the church’s fellowship hall for the traditional meal.

This is the second year that Pauline Baptist has turned Thanksgiving’s “warm feelings” into “hot meals”, as they share God’s love and campassion with Monticello.

To assiste residents with their sanitation needs over the Thanksgiving holidays, the City of Monticello will provide dumpsters for the public at three locations.

Attempted Capital Murder & Armed Robbery Charges Lead to 30 Year Prison Sentence for Last of Manhunt Suspects

The last of the three Saline County youths accused of the attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery of a Drew County man came to an end, Wednesday morning, when he accepted a plea bargain to spend 30 years in the Arkanas Dept. of Correction (plus 10 years suspended sentence).

In March, the three suspects stole an elderly Drew County man’s truck and gun, before stabbing him and leaving him severly bleeding on a county road,  A multi-agency manhunt quickly followed, which included a pack of search dogs from ADC and a helicopter from the Arkansas State Police.
